Logan Losurdo, Winner of AVID Australia’s Student Speaker Competition
Logan recounted his transformative journey from being the “silly kid” to the “level-headed kid” who is determined to become a lawyer at the Opening of the 2018 Summer Institute.

Vanessa Gonzalez and Sayra Cacho, International Student Speakers
Hailing all the way from Kelseyville in California, Vanessa and Sayra were finalists for the prestigious QuestBridge scholarships program. As the children of migrants who never had the opportunity finish school, they shared their story about how AVID cleared hurdles for them in pursuit of their aspirations.

If you attended the 2017 Summer Institute Opening, you will no doubt remember Hassan’s moving student speaker speech. Hassan finished Year 12 last year and will start his studies at Victoria University to become a teacher in 2019. Four years ago, he arrived in Australia with no formal schooling behind him. His remarkable story and the role of AVID and his devoted teachers at Wyndham Central College featured in The Australian on 12 December 2018.
