A commitment to supporting teachers and learners across Australia, to continually improve the art and craft of teaching, has seen AVID Australia internationally recognised for the K-12 Award at this year’s Reimagine Education Awards.
AVID Australia Reimagine Education Awards 2020
The Reimagine Education Awards, considered the ‘Oscars’ of Education, recognises innovative approaches that enhance student learning outcomes and employability.
This year’s event was held entirely online, within an interactive virtual conference, bringing together EdTech start-ups, academic faculty from top institutions, Chief Innovation Officers, university leadership, teachers, and other stakeholders in the future of higher education teaching and learning.
There were 1400 applications from around the world for these awards. 126 or roughly 9% were shortlisted in the various categories. There were at least five rounds of judging for each category with over 200 international expert judges making the final decisions. National Director Claire Brown said being shortlisted as one of the top 9% education innovations worldwide was a privilege. This recognition celebrates the hard work and dedication of teachers in AVID programs across Australia in what has been a challenging year for all educators.
“Recognition for our collective work in AVID will continue to inspire and recognise the passionate and dedicated work of our teachers and they will in turn inspire their students to be the best they can be. We’re excited to continue transforming the way we educate preparing students with the mindsets, skills, and capabilities to thrive in their education and the workforce”.
“We know that when you improve teachers’ confidence, competence, and engagement with their teaching practice, students’ learning will improve,” explained Claire.
“AVID’s continuous and scaffolded professional learning system elevates learning and teaching quality across schools and universities over time. We partner with teachers, schools and universities and respond to their specific professional learning and coaching needs. We’re there to support them in the important work they do, every day”.
AVID in Australia started as a university research project and the quality of the AVID system is why it has proved scalable and sustainable in Australia over the last ten years.
With Victoria University’s support, AVID Australia is developing a suite of research-informed education initiatives that can be contextualised to each school’s unique circumstances ensuring its customisability whatever a school’s needs.
